Legal Warranty in Europe: What You Need to Know
About the Legal Warranty:
European law ensures a legal warranty for the sale of consumer goods. This warranty protects you if a conformity defect appears within two years following delivery. During this period, it can be extended for the duration of repairs, replacement, or negotiations for a resolution.
A notable exception concerns used goods: the warranty period can be reduced by mutual agreement but must not be less than one year after delivery.
This warranty applies only to transactions between consumers and traders (B2C). Professional purchases (B2B) are not covered.
Warranty Coverage:
The legal warranty covers any lack of conformity, meaning when the delivered product does not match what was requested or ordered. It does not cover delivery delays, changes in delivery location, or defects known at the time of purchase.
Duration of the Warranty:
The legal warranty is valid if the defect is noticed within two years following the delivery of the goods. Any defect appearing during this period is presumed to have existed since delivery, unless proven otherwise by the seller.
In Case of a Defect:
If you notice a defect, you must inform us as soon as possible, and no later than two months after its discovery. Legal action for a defect is barred by one year after its recognition.
