Novels and video games
The Witcher is an action-RPG video game series developed by CD Projekt and published by Atari, an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. It was released in 2007 on PCs with Windows and in 2012 on those with Mac OS. A version for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, announced in late 2008, was canceled the following year.
An improved version titled The Witcher: Enhanced Edition was released in 2008. It had two sequels, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015.
Netflix also produced a series based on the novels in 2019.
The games and novels tell us the story of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher, member of a brotherhood of monster hunters. Over-trained humans with supernatural powers. Past masters in the art of sword fighting and in the knowledge of the myths and monstrosities that inhabit the world.
The life of a witcher is fraught with pitfalls. A stop in a small town very often rhymes with a problem to be solved. Witchers are frowned upon, regularly viewed as monsters. They earn their living by going from village to village gleaning contracts requiring the killing of monsters and other specters terrorizing the surroundings.
