The saga
The Alien Saga is a science fiction film series that begins with the confrontation between Lieutenant Ellen Ripley, played by actress Sigourney Weaver, and alien creatures, called xenomorphs.
In Alien (1979), the crew of the interstellar freighter Nostromo must face the creature in the ship after one of the members, Kane, was attacked by a facehugger emerging from an egg on an isolated planet, the Nostromo having picked up a sound signal emitted from it. Lieutenant Ellen Ripley will end up the only survivor of the confrontation. The success that the film meets will generate a franchise including three direct sequels, Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992) and Alien: Resurrection (1997) where Ellen Ripley, helped by Marines, will have to fight an army of xenomorphs and the Alien Queen. She will have to cohabit with inmates held in a penitentiary and together, they will fight against an Alien eliminating the prisoners. She will sacrifice herself having become the host of a future Alien Queen but scientists will manage to create a clone of Ripley and extract the Alien Queen from her womb and place her in captivity.
We then return to the origins of the creature in Prometheus (2012) with Elizabeth Shaw and David, played by Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender respectively. The crew of the Prometheus will meet the Engineers who would be responsible for the creation of mankind.
In Alien: Covenant (2017), the action takes place ten years after the disappearance of the Prometheus and marks the return of the xenomorph but also introduces a new species, the neomorph.
The universe of Alien also intersected that of Predator with Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).
